Blogs and podcasts are the hot thing today and an efficient way to get information on the fly. But finding good titles can be a challenge. A Google search of podcasts for women produces the same old titles, all focused on fashion, romance, and DIY. Not interested!! What I want are thought provoking, timely, intelligent conversations that add meaning to my life. So I decided to make my own top 5 list. Here are my top 5 blogs and podcasts that women should follow in 2021 – in reverse order.
Table of contents
#5 Madam Money – Financial Wisdom
Tarra Jackson is Madam Money. She is an award winning national speaker, a best selling author of The Four Financial Languages – The Secret to Communicating About Money and her most recent title The Dualprenuer Bible – 10 Commandments for Starting a Side Business. She works with corporations, individuals, universities, church and faith based organizations, and small businesses. I am a finance person by training and find her to be helpful, relatable, and interesting. Check her out and follow her for financial wisdom.
#4 Ma’am Cave – Enjoying Life
I couldn’t write this article without putting my own blog on the list. If I don’t love it, I should stop writing it! Ma’am Cave is a place for sharing ideas about enjoying life on your terms. I don’t write what the world tells me women are supposed to do, think, engage in or say. I write what I think is fun and enjoyable. My topics vary based on season and my projects at the time. It’s a place for validation, inspiration, and ideas. Visit often and subscribe to my email list so you don’t miss a post.
#3 Marie Forleo – Entrepreneurship and Inspiration
According to Marie’s about page, she is “An entrepreneur, writer, philanthropist & unshakable optimist dedicated to helping you become the person you most want to be.” I’ve been reading her blog for about a year now and I agree with her description! She is enthusiastic, positive, and smart. Even if you don’t own a business, and have no desire to start one, you’ll find her posts uplifting and addictive.
#2 Tim Ferris – Finding Success
Tim is best known for his book “The 4 Hour Workweek”. Despite it’s title, this book isn’t about being lazy or working less. It’s about designing your approach in an efficient, positive, and focused manner. Tim’s podcast is billed as a business podcast but it is much more than that. He interviews fascinating and successful people from all walks of life and digs into what makes them tick. His keen interview skills get at the questions no one else asks ensuring an engaging and enlightening hour.
According to Tim’s website, some of his past guests include “Hugh Jackman, Dr. Jane Goodall, Neil Gaiman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, LeBron James, Elizabeth Gilbert, Ray Dalio, Michael Lewis, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Kevin Hart, Edward Norton, Tony Robbins, Maria Sharapova, Jamie Foxx, Maria Popova, Peter Thiel, Marc Andreessen, Amanda Palmer, Malcolm Gladwell, Vince Vaughn, Rick Rubin, Reid Hoffman, Jon Favreau, Whitney Cummings, Matthew McConaughey, and 400+ more…” He seems to know everyone who is anyone and gets them on his podcast. I am pretty sure I’ve learned something from every episode I’ve listened to.
#1 Unlocking Us – Brené Brown
A list of blogs and podcasts women should follow in 2021 – or any year – would not be complete without mentioning Dr. Brené Brown. Unlocking Us is by far my favorite podcast! I never miss an episode. According to her website, she “…spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy. … is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers: The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, Braving the Wilderness, and Dare to Lead. …..most recent book was released in October 2018 and is the culmination of a seven-year study on the future of leadership.”
Dr. Brown interviews powerhouse guests, including President Obama and Oprah Winfrey. She talks about leadership, vulnerability and triumph. In her own words, her podcast is “Conversations that unlock the deeply human part of who we are, so that we can live, love, parent, and lead with more courage and heart.” I LOVE this show!!!
She has a second podcast, Dare to Lead, which I plan to check out in 2021.
These are my favorites. What’s yours?
